The Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE), official co-organizer of the exhibition Alexander the Great by the late Warlamis at the Library of Alexandria, participated in the farewell event organized in the context of the completion of the exhibition.

Mayors and administrative executives of KEDE, led by the 2nd Vice President, Mayor of Agrinio Mr. Georgios Papanastasiou, were given a tour of the Exhibition by its curator Mr. Asterios Nenos and attended the lecture-seminar given by Professors Badawi Hassan from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. and Bashir Hussein from the Library of Alexandria on the topic: The timeless relationship between the Greeks and the Egyptians throughout the centuries.

In the packed amphitheater of the Library, academics and students actively participated in the discussion that followed the presentations of the two professors and showed how timely the interest and interactions of the timeless connection between the two cultures remain. Greetings were delivered by the Bishop of Mareotis, Venerable Damaskinos (representative of His Beatitude Patriarch of Alexandria, Mr. Theodore Β`), the Consul in Alexandria, Mr. Ioannis Pyrgakis, and the Director of the Library, Mrs. Hemba El Rafei.

Afterwards, the KEDE delegation and the other official visitors were given a tour of the Library by the artistic director Mr. Gamal Hosni and in the afternoon they were treated to a reception by the Vergina Experimental Laboratory at the Greek Community restaurant where they tasted Arabic cuisine by the famous Alexandrian chef, Mrs. Antigone Zoulias. The following day, the participants of the Exhibition and the KEDE delegation received the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Mr. Theodore II. There, in a moving event, the Patriarch, Mr. Theodore honored the work of the late Warlamis by awarding the Golden Lion medal of the Patriarchate of Alexandria to Mr. Pavlos Trochopoulos, representative of the Piramatiko Ergastiri Verginas.

ERT3’s team from the show Diaspora with the well-known journalist Chrysa Samou who traveled to Alexandria especially for the exhibition, is preparing and will present a major tribute with the closing events and the moving honorary event at the Patriarchate.
