At the invitation of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria, the monumental collection “Mount Athos” by our late compatriot Makis Warlamis will be presented at the National Palace of Culture as part of the “Salon of Arts” autumn festival.
The exhibition opens to the public on September 14, and the official inauguration will take place on October 17, presided over by our Patriarch, Bartholomew.
For the first time, the presentation of the collection will also feature selected photographs of monks, in collaboration with the Mount Athos Photo Archive.
It promises to be a historic event, generating immense interest among the religious, political, and academic communities of our neighboring country.
More than 40 large-scale works—along with the sculptures and installations comprising this historic collection—will be exhibited in the imposing “Palace of Culture” (NDK) building in the center of Sofia. The event is organized by the National Palace of Culture (NDK) in collaboration with the Vergina Experimental Workshop, the Mount Athos Photo Archive, and the Warlamis Museum in Austria.
The exhibition is held with the support of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Mr. Prodromos Mavropoulos serving as sponsor. ERT3 is the media sponsor.
Through this exhibition, the two Primates—and indeed Bulgaria and Greece—send a message of peace and mutual respect at a time when the world is aflame with bloody conflicts, discrimination, and exclusion.
Warlamis’s monumental work—ever relevant—offers Orthodox Balkan nations the opportunity to play a leading role in shaping the common European ideal by showcasing the model of a thousand-year-old monastic tradition.
At the initiative of the travel agency travel4all (Filippidis), a two-day trip to Sofia is being organized for the opening ceremony and to receive the blessing of our Patriarch.
